I think what you are doing is very mature. Accepting authority is tough but it is something that is biblical. Romans 13 states the following: "Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God." This coupled with the biblical concept of contentment will ensure you achieve complete peace and harmony in your life ("If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content" 1 Timothy 6:8) and you may find yourself being drawn closer to God.
